I was watching you last night like it was the first time.
Sometimes, as a mom, we worry. Does the world see you the way I do? Is the world good enough to have you in it?
You are not much of a teenager. You dont exacerbate me. I am not fed up with you. You aren’t selfish or mean. You have never- ever- said “I hate you, mom” Even though all the experts say that is normal. You never slam doors, your room is fairly neat. You ask me about my day. You tell me you love me all the time. You say thank you to me every day for the little things, for the big things. You take nothing for granted. You work hard. You love life.
You are goodness
You are inside out beautiful
You sort of took my breath away last night. You were so graceful
Best part? At an elegant party of 120 people you found the only swing and went for it
I see people love you the way I do.
hold onto your way
hold onto your childhood
Maybe the world is good enough to have you after all
but I am not totally ready to give you over.
I am working on it.
