You might remember Ian Ziering from the cast of Beverly Hills 90210. Alternatively, you might remember him from Sharknado, Dancing with The Stars and Celebrity Apprentice. While he has played many roles on the big and small screen over the years, to his two adorable little girls, Ian Ziering is just “daddy.”
Ian describes being a dad to sweet Penna and Mia as the most important role of his life. He takes his role as a father seriously. Ian was named DaddyScrubs “Daddy of the Year 2013,” an award recognizing fathers who are extremely proactive in raising their children. He and his wife, nurse Erin Ludwig Ziering, also started a parenting/lifestyle blog called At Home with the Zierings that showcases their unique sense of style, taste, and advice for the whole family.
Drawing from his experience as a dad and from his own experiences as a child, Ian took the time to discuss an issue that’s been important to him: nighttime wetting. As a former nighttime wetter himself, Ian is acutely aware of how embarrassing or shameful it can feel. His own children have experienced nighttime wetting also, so he’s learned about the challenges of dealing with things from a parent’s perspective too. Between sleepovers and summer camp, summer can be particularly challenging for children who struggle with incontinence. What should be rites of passage can be worry-provoking and unpleasant. Kids who wet the bed can feel like it’s all their fault, and Ian wants them to know that it’s not.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, nighttime wetting can be hereditary. Ian is passionate about breaking the stigma of nighttime wetting and shared freely his experiences trying to keep his secret from his parents and siblings as a child. His key message is reinforcing what the experts say: nighttime wetting is not your child’s fault, and you can help your child through it.
To help you navigate through these parenting challenges, Ian recommends the resources available to parents on GoodNites. He has used their products to address his own children’s nighttime wetting and enthusiastically endorses them.
