Yesterday was the snow day heard round the world. It was kind of a big deal. Or at least it was made out to be. I love how we Canadians can sit back and laugh at ourselves:
Anyways…yesterday. I was with my children from 7am until 8pm. We stayed in our pjs all day. We put our snow pants on over our jammies and played in the snow, shoveled a few times and tobogganed on the snowbank that was once our front lawn. We had a few cups of hot chocolate and watched a bunch of Playhouse Disney.
It was a great day but I must admit my 7pm – hour 12 of parenting – I was finished and wanted to put them away for the day. Tuck them away with all the toys for the night and not see them until morning. But I can’t throw them in a toybox and forget about them so I had to find another hour of energy to get them ready for bed, which I did.
Today is the opposite. I have NO kids ALL day. My father in law called this morning and asked if he could pick Eva up from nursery school and keep her for the afternoon.
Hell yes.
The boys finish school at 3:45. I have the entire day to MYSELF.
I’m not sure that I have ever had a full day to myself since I’ve had kids. For real.
Had I knew ahead of time I may have budgeted for a massage or pedi or a hair appointment.
I will definitely clean the house. And finish (yes finish!) laundry.
But then what? There’s a whole afternoon ahead of me.
What should I do?
Shopping is not in the budget right now. I’m not a napper.
Should I just sit in my clean house and watch bad tv all day? Should I go for a walk (it’s kinda cold…) What should I do?
What would you do if you had an entire day to yourself?

I’m with Sara – that’s what I’d do. In any case, you earned some hours off after a full-on day like that. Sounds like it was a really fun day off for your kids though – you’re a good mum!!

I love winter, so a walk or snowshoe in a local park or ravine, an expensive latte afterward with a window seat and the whole newspaper without interruption, some writing, some staring off into space, some fiction reading on couch, ……..but I think I am sending you this too late- I hope the day was good!

Jen – I took the Nikon back a few weeks ago and ordered the Canon. I’ve been patiently waiting for 2 WEEKS! I don’t even have my point and shoot – they are replacing the flash bulb that burnt out. Also waiting 2 weeks for that!!! Urgh! I was hoping to get a phone call that both camera’s were ready for pick up. That would really really make my day!
I’ll have to plan better next time. I’m due for a hair appt and would love a pedi. I’ll save some money and make sure I pamper myself if this ever happens again 🙂
Sara – that might be just what happens. Chillin on the couch watching some of my pvr’d shows.

This is SO sad! I can’t think of anything. I don’t remember the last time I had a day to myself either that wasn’t planned with a much needed hair cut or sick with the flu. And I don’t think those count 🙂
I’m excited for you just thinking about it though. Do you have any books? Are there any movies you’ve wanted to rent? You could go shopping just to pick out a few nice things as “prizes” for when you’ve reached the weight you want or people watch at the mall (lol). Why don’t you go for a walk and play with your new camera?

do nothing….it’s heavenly – take a long shower; eat what you want; lie on the couch and watch crap tv….it’s fun!
