As I sat down to write this morning, I was shocked to see how long it’s been since my last post. And although I would prefer I had written more faithfully on my blog, I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed these last few quiet weeks. I’ve been rather silent on social media, and days have gone by where I haven’t sat down at the computer at all. Instead I’ve read two books and been present for my daughters in a way that I seldom can be during the hustle and bustle of school/working weeks.
All of which is not to say I’m giving up technology. Far from it! But interestingly enough, even my admittedly media-addicted twelve year-old said yesterday, “sometimes it’s really good to have no computers around. You can really have a lot of fun without them.” From there, a conversation ensued with much reminiscing over card games and board games and outdoor fun at the cottage this summer. Euchre and solitaire and yahtzee and badminton and tubing and skinny-dipping…these are the things of which sweet family memories are made, my friends.
So while in one sense I regret my recent absence from this space, in another, it’s given me the opportunity to be more present in a different space: my family.
And as I look back over 2012, I see there have been many opportunities for my girls and I to be present in the most important of moments.
A New Year’s lunch with cousins
Disneyland with my girls
Stranded in Monterey Beach
Sending my girl off to sleepaway camp for the first time
An Okanagan trail ride
Chillin’ with the cousins at the cottage
Birthday parties
Christmas morning hugs

Love those precious moments! Yes, we all do get caught up with work and tech. Down time is wonderful! Your pics are a great reminder that memories are made by the pleasures of simply being together with family and friends! Thank you!

Love the photos Kath! I’m glad we got to see you this year, it doesn’t happen often enough anymore. I’m thinking of a great western road trip this summer – so hopefully we’ll see more of you.
