being shiny, happy, alive and imperfect

March 28, 2013 by Nancy

We have a culture of imperfection in my home. I am the leader. I am fabulous at imperfect. You should see how many things I can do imperfectly. I am a master of more than 10,000 hours of imperfection.
Sometimes this is nothing to be proud of, other times, mainly I think, it is a gift. If you can let go of perfect, you can be free. This is doing your best and letting go of any ideal.

I have said it too many times to count (obnoxious, irritating, thoroughly boring  of me maybe)  but there is nothing I love more than seeing my girls sing. I love that they do it when it is imperfect. I love that it brings them joy.

Please indulge me. I want  to share this with you- it is from my birthday this year. And I finally this week got the uncut version! Thanks Jen.
It does not matter how I feel; lousy, tired, alone, worried, sad, or otherwise. THIS NEVER FAILS ME. It lifts me up.
All is right in the world for a few moments.
Shiny, happy, alive and imperfect.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be weeping under my desk today at the awesomeness.
And having t-shirts printed up about the ‘culture of imperfection’
Feel so fortunate to have met the girls – as Tracy said they are filled with you…xx

Oh my goodness… NANCY!! What splendid girls you have there, gosh! And how could one’s spirits NOT be lifted by such loveliness? They are terrific – and they have so much of YOU inside them, that’s clear to see. Wow. xox

It lifts me up too, Nancy and it was an honour to be a part of it! Those are two amazing and talented girls you have.
I think the goal of imperfection is really about self-acceptance. I am getting much better at it and hope I am passing on this trait to my kids. But all I can do is my best 😉
