home alone part 1

February 22, 2013 by Nancy

love now.jpg

In the last 18 years I have rarely been alone. I was married and I had two girls then I got divorced and had full custody. I have an art school which means if I am not with my kids I am likely with yours or someone else’s. I have a great family who all live pretty close to me and I see them all quite a bit. I have many, many wonderful friends who I spend as much time with as I can.

I have hardly ever been alone in almost two decades.
Tonight my youngest leaves to South America on exchange for a month. On Sunday my eldest goes back to University after spending reading week here with us.
This will be my home alone part 1. Part 2, of course, will be in a few years when both are away at school!
A few have said – how will it be for you?
Like all change, I am going into it with with the attitude of excitement and a pretty full calendar of work and play and travel and even a weekend guest. Love Now is part survival and part happiness making. This is a choice and one I always  force myself  try to make even if my preference is to have my children around me as much as possible.
Any suggestions as to what I should do differently? Don’t say walk around naked because I already do that. Don’t say get into trouble because trouble never takes a holiday.
What would you do if you were in home alone part 1?

I would become hopelessly lost in an art project – you know, where you are so engaged, you forget to eat and have no idea what time it is – and don’t care:)

Invite your friend Tracey to come visit for three weeks, and read every book on the shelf + become full-time winos.

sit quietly with no music or anything and think – then write down all the wonderful ideas I had – repeat

Say yes to every offer to go out. And that includes lots of girls nights, dinners out, long last minute walks or snowshoe adventures, window shopping and catch up on all the adult movies. See you lots!
