Recipe for Relaxation

November 22, 2010 by amreen

It’s Sunday night in my house.  The Boy announces that he can’t find his school project – which is of course due tomorrow.  The Girl decides that she must find her necklace with the purple stones RIGHT NOW and is tearing apart her room looking for it.  The Baby, aware of my distraction, seizes the opportunity to maniacally crush Goldfish crackers into the carpet.

My heart is pounding, my head throbbing and I’m doing everything I can not to yell in an abusive and cruel manner.  Finally, I get them down to bed, and my husband tells me “You really need to relax.”

YOU DON’T THINK I KNOW THAT!

But how? I keep telling myself I’ll try and get out and take some time for myself.  But it’s increasingly apparent that I need to find some peace in my own home.  I’ve been trying to implement some relaxation into my daily routine at home, even if it’s just for a few serene moments.  Here’s what I’ve been up to:

I discovered these candles from Bath & Body Works in a tweet by my friend and fellow Urbanmoms blogger, Christine (check out her AWESOME blog here).  They are unbelievably fragrant and soothing. This is my current fave, Cinnamon and Clove Buds.

I’ve designated this spot in my home as My Cosy Nook.  When the kids are down at the end of the day, I curl up here with a magazine and read for a few moments by the fire.  The fluffier the mag the better. Us Weekly and People are about as heavy as I can handle right now, though sometimes I like to look at the pictures in Vogue.

Don’t underestimate the power of cocoa. I bought this on a whim purchase at Costco (it will probably last me several years) and it is unbelievably delicious (make it with skim milk – way better than with water).  Think Dairy Milk in a warm mug.  It’s about as close as a beverage can come to a hug.

What’s your recipe for relaxation??

An empty house with a new People or Us Weekly magazine (or both!)
or a nice hot soak with a Lemon Chiffon bath bomb from SpaSisters.ca!

I’m loving the hot cocoa these days too…with a splash of egg nog and some whipped cream on top. Perfect ending to any day. 🙂
