If you read my two other posts about child actors you are now aware of the work that is involved for the child, but for the parents (in my case parent – just me) there is so much work as well that sometimes I feel as though it is my full time job.
For example last week I was traveling from just outside of Toronto into Toronto EVERY DAY because Sebastian had auditions – one day he had two back to back, plus a commercial shoot. Then just this week I have already had auditions for both Arielle and Sebastian and next week Marie has one. It is a lot of juggling when you have 8 kiddies to deal with on top of this. Do the other children come with us? NO WAY…. typically the older children will babysit or I have a babysitter come over.
Many have asked why do I do it. The answer for me is very simple the children love it and take it very seriously. Really is any different than driving kids around to swimming, soccer, hockey? Not really.
There is also the other side of always having to keep on top of photos and slates – what is a slate? Take a look at Sebastian’s slate.
What do I get out of it? The satisfaction of my children learning real life skills and having experiences that are so special.
Of course there is also the fact that they will hopefully save enough money for a nice college or University fund!
Here is a beautiful example of keeping the photos updated. This is Arielle at an audition yesterday.
What do you consider your full time job when it comes to your children?
Until next time
