Being one of the two dads who write for UrbanMoms, it would be difficult to function in this environment, however virtual, without some semblance or history of successful mixing with women. While classically a ‘guy’s guy’ – sports talk, steak eating, scotch drinking, nut scratching – I have always reveled a bit in my ability to be comfortable surrounded by a group of women. In fact, my earliest blogging moments were rooted in reading and commenting and being part of a community with some spectacularly talented female bloggers that have subsequently moved on to bigger and better things in the e-publishing world.
So now I am here, alongside more spectacularly talented female bloggers, most who I have met in person (some I knew before joining) and some I am about to meet in Collingwood, Ontario in a couple of weeks on a retreat to further enhance our working relationships and build a better experience for our readers.
Will it involve wine and lengthy nighttime conversations? Likely.
Will there be occasional spurts of uncontrollable laughter? More likely.
Will I do something to embarrass myself in front of all these women? Definitely.
One lonely Beastie I won’t be.
Collingwood is one of my favourite spots in Ontario as it truly has become a fully functional four season recreational town. We will be staying right on the mountain at the Blue Mountain Resort, a fantastic location to experience both the fun stuff the area has to offer and great rooms and amenities where we can talk about all things blogging and reader engagement. Funny enough, I have stayed at Blue Mountain Resort for another retreat for a previous employer and while only for one night, we were treated so well I was happy to see our UrbanMoms getaway being held at the same location.
I am saying this knowing very well that I could stay at my parents place, about an eight minute drive from Blue Mountain in the old part of Collingwood.
Sure I love my parents, but to stay at a great resort, laughing and canoodling with nine women?
Sorry Ma, might be just a pop in this time.
