It’s no surprise to hear that Dove’s latest ad campaign is pulling on heartstrings, celebrating women and empowering us to celebrate ourselves. They’ve done it before with their “Real Beauty” campaigns and the latest installment is no different.
Dove is asking women across the globe to #ChooseBeautiful… literally. Dove took the streets of five cities around the world—Sao Paulo, Delhi, San Francisco, London and Shanghai—where they marked two doors with signs that read “Average” and “Beautiful”.
The camera then looked on as women approached the door and had to choose; were they just average, or beautiful?
As we have come to expect from Dove, the subsequent film is eye opening.
So many women walked through the average door. They go on to explain that the term beautiful is not within their reach, it is something that only celebrities can truly obtain.
Some explained the experience as confronting—they were forced to choose and, as one woman says, that moment made them self-conscious of how they perceive themselves and if that perception lines up with how the rest of the world sees them too.
Moral of the story? Embrace the beauty that is within yourself, no matter who you are and don’t rely on the rest of the world to validate who you are.
“Beautiful is a great word. So why not see what is on the other side of that”
