Urban Closet – January 27

January 27, 2014 by Urban Closet 3 Comments

I love when a trip the grocery store inspires a brand new outfit.

With literally 60 minutes from the time I threw my daughter on the ice for hockey practice to the time she came off, I had to drive to the grocery store, park, get in, do a week’s worth of shopping, get out, unpack, drive back and greet her in the dressing room looking like I’d been there watching her the entire time. I really didn’t have time to check out the Joe Fresh department. But the big Clearance signs were calling my name, and I’m a sucker for the song of the clearance rack sirens.

I grabbed a handful of pieces and went into the fitting room, but absolutely nothing “grabbed” me. “Oh well,” I sighed. “More money for ice cream and chips fruits and vegetables.” But as I meandered out to the grocery aisles, I was distracted by this fun plaid skirt. It’s a fresh, lively pattern, and a wrinkle-free taffeta material. It was my size. it was $14.94 and it had pockets! No time left to try it on, but I stuck it in my grocery cart and continued on my way.

When I got it home and surreptitiously smuggled it up to my closet, I started matching pieces to it. I’d planned to wear it today with a fitted black tshirt and some funky bracelets, but the temperatures are expected to drop during the day, so I opted for a couple of layers instead and I like this almost “school girl” look.

Skirt, Joe Fresh ($14.99!!!!), Shoes, Old Navy (at least four years old and at this point the cost-per-wear is pennies),

Blouse and sweater, Banana Republic from seasons past, Glasses, Chanel and my favourite accessory these days.

By the way, this is my office bathroom, and it really couldn’t be much uglier, could it? I’ve pulled out all stops (Enhancing the photo, cropping, fun Instagram filters, etc.) to try to distract you, but it’s still awful. I’ll try to limit my posts to boudoir shots in the future.

So cute! I’m dying to wear skirts, so I just got two new ones, now waiting for a balmy -10 day to wear one on…
