Thousands Flood Social Media To Show #thepowerofmakeup

June 30, 2015 by Hania Ahmed Leave a Comment

Women are taking the internet by storm and posting pictures of them wearing makeup on only half of their face to combat “makeup shaming”.

The campaign, which has now gone viral with the hashtag #ThePowerofMakeup, was started when a YouTuber and hair and makeup artist NikkieTutorials transformed only half her face to show that wearing makeup is a fun experience and that make up is all about your own choices.

“There are no rules to makeup,” says Nikkie in her video “The Power of Makeup”, which was uploaded last month and had over 18 million views when this article was published.

Since then, thousands of men and women have taken to social media, wearing makeup on one half of their face, to support Nikkie’s message and shut down the haters. Many people suggest that women only wear makeup to hide insecurities or to impress people (specifically men because you know, they’re just so important).

These kinds of trends are exactly the kind of thing that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Check out some pictures below and search #thepowerofmakeup for even more inspiring and powerful photos.
