I live in BC where the all the teachers in the province went on strike last week, bringing summer holidays a full two weeks earlier than I was emotionally prepared for. Social media is abuzz with photos of kids at the beach, and moms firing out hashtags like #bestdayever, #ilovesummer, and #lovingeveryminute. Meanwhile, I could be found locked in my bathroom, frantically trying to make work phone calls in peace, keep up with the stream of emails and inquiries and showings to schedule while the kids bellow for more snacks or to update me on the latest sisterly brawl.
Anyone else relate?
I love my job and I love my kids, but it’s just really hard sometimes to balance it all, you know?
I WANT to enjoy the summer. I do. It’s supposed to be magical. And not have me fighting back tears while I sit on on the lid of the toilet, feeling torn between my commitment to my job and the needs of my kids. GAH.
I love my job and I love my kids, but it’s just really hard sometimes to balance it all, you know?
We will be getting away for a week of family vacation the first week of July so I am looking forward to turning off my phone, focusing on family time then and making some good memories.
Anyone else out there have mixed feelings about summer holidays?

I feel for you. I do not have to face that terrible juggle this year. Yay unemployment! But I’ve been there, so I know how it goes. Good luck! You can do this!

I don’t even have a full time job and I’m struggling to keep the whining and fighting and screaming at bay. UGH!!

YUP. I’m with ya. I’m SO looking forward to not driving everyone everywhere, but it also means my kids will be at each others’ throats all day rather than before 8:30am and after 3:30pm. I’m hoping to make the most of it and do all the summery things. I definitely have mixed feelings about it.
