Ugh….what’s the saying the road to somewhere is paved with good intentions??
Well – I had great intentions. Start biking to work. Eat better. Drink more water. Stick to my new naturopath plan. Okay three out of four ain’t bad.
My fry intake? Minimal. Chips. Nadda. Water? My pee is clear for the first time since I was probably five….and the exercise I get walking to the can every half an hour? Fantastic. Sticking to my naturopath plan? So far so good …. and let me tell you – exchanging my morning coffee for a lemon juice, immunity drop, tumeric tea….it ain’t easy.
Then there’s the biking. I’ve learned a few things about getting older. Your body is NOT your friend. After biking to work and back twice in a week with a pack on my geriatric back…I’ve been immobile for ten days essentially. My neck is destroyed. Stiffer than Charlie Sheen at the Playboy Mansion. Chiropractor, massage therapy, x-rays, doctor and physiotherapy. Good news? It’s not a disc issue. Bad news? I’m apparently an out of shape, nearing mid-fourties, old broad! UGH!
But I’m not giving up. I just have to start a little slower and work up to it. I’m back working with my physiotherapist who saved me after my achilles rupture. It’s only April right??? By mid-May – I’ll be biking to work. Oh I will. AND I’m adding a night of boxing class to my routine. Better put the ER on alert.
One thing I’m thankful for? My benefits at work! Oh and muscle relaxants. I’m really thankful for muscle relaxants. Remember that scene from Sixteen Candles? Uh huh. That’s me.

Oh I hear ya! As a fellow 40 *mumble mumble* mom, nothing is easy. I work out pretty regularly but something always hurts – my hip, my knee, my neck… The good news is I feel WORSE if I don’t. So stick with it – it will get better! My massage therapist is my best friend.

Just slow down don’t stop, because the restart is the hard part. Take it easy, but before you know it all your hard work will start to pay off….Good for you Sara!!!

Oh my sweet… I googled that VERY scene yesterday! How random!!
Poor you… glad to know there’s no permanent injuries – yes, pace yourself. I swear, these are the kinds of pains that make getting back into shape a TOTAL PAIN! You’re brave – I avoid. Good for you, lady!! Here’s to being back on your bike mid-May!
And boxing?! Whoa, le… wow.

That scene is so classic!! I just watched it from your site. I love the dad catching her and saying “heeere comes the bride..,” I love muscle relaxers.
