We leave tomorrow for a family vacation to Keats Island. I have never been there before, nor have we taken an actual family holiday since we had kids. Travel FAIL. Call me crazy, but the idea of packing up diapers, playpens, bottles, strollers, pureed bananas and paying, like, $7,000 for our three howling toddlers to accompany us on a trip made me want to curl up in the fetal position and weep softly into my wine. So, we waited it out. And now our kids are semi-civilized and it’s actually fun to take them places.
Kids: you lose a decade of your life! But it’s worth it!

(Right?)
It is. It will be great. Once we get there, that is. The preparation is enough to make me scream though. Work has been nuts and my husband and I have both been working late, so planning a week’s worth of meals and packing proper clothing and supplies for everyone has been daunting. First world problem, I know. Still. Am tired.
Are you going away on a holiday this summer? Did you travel when your kids were little or put your life on hold like we did?
Julie says
it is easier to travel when the kids are older…no strollers, playpens, diapers…they eat “normal” food…but we’ve been travelling out east every year for the last 20+ years and 11 of those have been with at least one baby 🙂 the kids will get so much out of the trip. they’ll remember things from it at the weirdest moments and you’ll realize they really did appreciate it all!

Yes we Always travelled with the kids without any problem. Why pack food for a week? Aren’t there supermarkets over there? Just toss some clothes and toys in the car and go! Just enjoy and don’t worry.
