It’s officially our summer vacation. Bags are packed (in my head). Sunscreen is ready (at the drugstore). Blankies are washed (tonight).
Will and I are again busting out of dodge – it seems we’ve been on the road a ton lately. Tomorrow we head to the Nation’s Capital. We’re staying with my aunt and uncle. Then Sunday morning we head off again to the beautiful Eastern Townships of Quebec. Scratch that. I head out to the Eastern Townships of Quebec. The boy is staying in Ottawa.
A few months ago, my aunt and uncle asked if they could have Will for a week to get to know him. Incredibly sweet. Very generous. Totally exhausting. But they’re up for it. It’s a great visual. I used to babysit their kids when they were Will’s age. Now they’re strapping, grown men who will have the pressure off them to produce grandchildren after this week. Pay me later Brad and Jeff!
While Will is frolicking in the pool with two boxers and another four year-old who lives on their street, I’m heading up to the spot that he’s named after – Sutton. I’m going to spend the week biking, running, swimming, tanning, reading, sleeping, hopefully visiting with my friend Tory, and enjoying the peace and quiet. I’ll also spend some time at the cemetery – my mom and grandmother need a coffee. (Yes, I pour it in the ground..I’m odd).
But truth-be-told what seemed like the most incredible sounding week to me six months ago is now starting to freak me out a bit. Not because I don’t 110% trust my aunt and uncle. Not because I don’t think Will will have a blast.
It’s just that I’m going to really miss him.
Even now when he’s away for a night, I miss our morning talks (on the weekends), our daily reviews and the general ridiculousness that comes along with being with Will. We’re going to Facetime and I know I’ll get updates on Facebook too.
I will take some alone time to reflect on how incredibly blessed my life is. The help I get from my family and friends is unparalleled and I could never raise Will without it. We are healthy, we have a dry house, we have each other. We’ve also had some amazing adventures together already (as you can see above!).
So have a fantastic week everyone! I’ll raise a beer or twelve for you!

Ack, Sara! What happened to that little guy holding on to the chair to keep upright? When did he get so big?
