Spring finally arrived in Toronto this past weekend and without anything truly burdensome on the agenda, we stuck close to home to get a few things done in anticipation of ongoing sunny weather.
First was a Friday night at the boy’s school volunteering and playing at Community Night, a once a year fundraiser for the school and various charities. It’s a really fun event where kids can go from room to room playing in various games and activities for a nominal fee. The highlight is the pie throwing at the teacher event that acts as a conclusion to the night. All the parents and kids watching in the gym makes it truly feel like a community. Something we haven’t felt at previous schools.

Next up was a 7:30am Saturday trip to pick up soil, grass seed, a new hose and a seed spreader (sounds dirty no?) to try and bring our small but functional backyard back to life. Two years ago we turned a mud pit into a lush green space by resodding the lawn, and by we I mean Steph and her friends enthusiastically laid down the carpets of grass with mathematical precision. It looked spectacular. Two years later, two crazy boys and one acid peeing dog, the lawn was pretty torn up. We decided to go with reseeding this year to see if it will take.
Selfie picking up some gear. This is a very rare shot. Handyman I am not.
Next Steph took the hippies to get their spring haircut. While shaggy locks remain quite hip in the playground, both our boys actually recognize that short hair in hot weather is much easier to manage than the manes they were sporting.
And we get to see their beautiful faces.
There was a great night out celebrating an old friend’s 40th (no pictures of me dancing thank you very much) and a lovely visit from my sister and her family where we just hung out, ate cheese and strawberries, drinking beer and celebrating the simple love we have for each other.
So even with Monday coming too quickly, this past weekend once again reminded me what a lucky lucky man I am.
