I love a little french here and there
“VAGABONDER” is one of my favourite french verbs
say it with me- ‘marcher ca et la, au hasard’
oh, I love a little “au hasard” which means by chance (somehow in french it sounds a little dangerous, in a nifty way)
translated asto wander, it is my favourite aspect of summer.
We go where we are invited, even if it is inconvenient. Even if we are tired or really busy.
Last night we slept at our friend’s in Muskoka as we are doing a camp across the lake from her.
So in our car we had, amongst the art supplies, fresh berries, wine and overnight bags- three wet bikinis hanging on the seats to dry.
I LOVE this sight- I feel 20. And all loose as a goose.
It is the antithesis of uptight and scheduled to the hilt all year. I can rub up against this a little too closely.
Do you vagabonder in the summer ? I highly recommend.

What a wonderful story! I’ve been building a new house and opened a small business and a) haven’t seen my sisters in months [Boston/Vancouver], b) turned down a gal’s weekend on Rosseau twice, c) have kids that are 20-ish who moved out and haven’t returned yet to the fold, d) our book club is off for the summer months = I am really missing that vagabonish-nish-ish of my life with my sisters and friends.
Maria says
wish wish wish I had neighbours like you!
Tracey says
Nothing would make me happier, Village. Truly. xoxox
Nancy says
could you PUHLEASE move in next door, cut their grass and drink with me every single night?
Tracey says
Sounds so lovely, lady. Enjoy yourselves.
Our kids are still smallish, and have camp routines (kinda) but after they’ve gone to bed, our neighbourhood foxes often catch their second winds, and we end up in somebody’s yard, with some wine, and some stories from the day, and we’re often this way until someone looks up and says, “Crap. It’s 2 AM again.” And then we scatter.
Life is good. 😉
