There is no avoiding it is there. It’s coming. The stores are full of decorations and it even snowed this week. Christmas!
Ho Ho Horrible?
Actually, I’m not dreading it. Amazing what these kids can do for you.
I’ve made a decision about this year’s shopping. It will be minimal. Last year, Will’s babysitter Allysha had a part-time gig at Toys R Us. I gave her a list and my credit card and bam, my job was done. That job is no more. And as I see a couple of the things that I bought for him languishing in boxes, I’ve made a choice.
This year’s shopping started this week – and I’m hitting up Kijiji and Craigslist. Used and affordable. And next year, when I look back I won’t be upset that I blew a ton of dough on stuff that isn’t being used.
So far I have a perfect set of Scooby Doo reading books ($15); a Scooby Doo t-shirt ($4) and an awesome air hockey table ($10). I’m eying a Scooby Doo popcorn maker but it’s a bit of drive. I also found a few Scooby Doo movies that he’s missing but I’m in shipping negotiations with the owner. He does really want Scooby Doo lego and I’ll happily go to Toys R Us and drop the money for one big gift…I mean I’ll happily ask Santa to get the elves working on it.
Have you started your shopping? What do you think of my idea? Crazy or will join in my crusade (yes, I am singing Les Mis right now!).

i agree with tracey. i’ve already told the girls to expect less “stuff” but i like to spend the money on the theatre with them! we go see the ross petty pantomimes and have dinner and they talk about that for years…literally! and over there, under the library books lies the build your own volcano heading into its second year of dormancy.

I think that’s just smart, Sara. Less is more sometimes. And anyway, I find kid’s “desperate wishes” too be fleeting… he’ll be onto loving the hell out of something else pretty soon, I’ll bet!!
