A home renovation is a massive undertaking! This photo gallery takes you through the demolition phase of our 90+ year old home in Toronto. We are upgrading, reconfiguring and building an addition. Have you ever gone through a home renovation? What tips or advice can you offer?
Squee! Super excited to see how this comes out!
We added a 2nd floor to our house and lived in it during the mess, etc. Our biggest problem was we kept adding things as the renovation went along, throwing budget out the window.
Oh yes. The budget…I keep forgetting about that!
My tip would be to stick as close to your budget as possible – when that kind of money is being spent, another $200 here or $500+ will up, Up, UP that final amount until your eyes bug out of your head and you faint dead away. That said, don’t skimp on the things you’re not likely to change for a long, long time, like a good kitchen faucet, or excellent tiles. You can buy furniture later – install the heated floor now. (So exciting!!)
You’re so right, Tracey. We have had to cut out a few things to add in some new things that need to be done “now or never”. It is a real balance!
