Around this time of year I start getting serious with my holiday gift list. I start shopping usually in September and work down the list. I’m one of those people who love everything about the holidays. But I don’t like stress shopping – you know I mean? The thought of barrelling through a sea of aggressive shoppers, screaming kids and long lines at the mall with coats and boots is not my idea of fun.
There’s a group of us who have remained friends for over 15 years and each December we get together to exchange small gifts. I love hearing their stories…”when I was in Nepal I discovered this local woman who made these bags” or “when I was in Italy I visited this olive oil stand in market” or “it was hand-made and delicious from Charlevoix.” Pure LOVE and thoughtfulness!
I love things that are hand-made and lately I’ve been spending time on Etsy Canada. You’ve probably heard about the site? It’s a wonderful treasure trove of mostly artisan wares from food, jewellery, home decor, fashion, art, and beauty. I’m telling you this now because it’s the perfect time to get in orders for the holidays.
I’ve purchased quite a few gifts already and just waiting for them to arrive.
I discovered this one particular item that made me smile and think of Tracey. I JUST HAD to get it for her. I bought one for her and one for me! She’s not expecting it and maybe she won’t read this post? Haha! But nonetheless, I’m paying forward the thoughtfulness that I know she will appreciate. You see, someone has “paid it forward” to me as well. Now, I’m spreading the joy to a few of my friends.
Just wait and see!
Here are some of the items that have caught my eye that I may have already ordered for the friends and family on my holiday gift list!….and a few items for me!
Go and see the site! at www.etsy.com/ca. There are some very thoughtful ideas there at all different price points for everyone on your list!
So, how far along are you on your holiday shopping?

I have about half the kids done, and ideas for a couple of the grownups, so I’m doing okay – I always take time off in late November/early December to truly get on with it so it can be done before I get stressed.

Wait… THIS Tracey?! Hee!! Goodness, lady… And oh my, do I ever love Etsy – this post is a great reminder to support artisans – Canadian and otherwise – not to mention how cheerful online shopping is compared to the alternative.
PS – Those baby pyjamas are so cute, they’re dumb. LOVE THEM!!
