Last night was my last ride of 2012 It’s safe to say that the bike is packed up until the New Year. I have really gulp, loved, this new biking thing. Let me clarify that. Every single morning when I know I’m biking, I have an internal dialogue. It goes like this…
‘Just take a shower here. It’s so much easier.’
‘No but you’ll feel so much better if you do it!’
‘What if it’s windy on the ride home – that would suck.’
‘Just do it – think of your thighs.’
It’s daily. So lets go with this. Once I’m on the bike, I love it.
Why? Because it’s an hour and a half a day for me. There is no Will, no iPhone, no computer. There is me and fresh air. My morning ride is spent with Matt Galloway and Metro Morning. My ride home goes depending on mood. Tallest Man on Earth, Eminem, Old Stones, Billy Talent.
Why? Because I finally stuck with something. I’ll be honest. Back in May, I wrote about starting this new ‘healthier’ lifestyle because I knew I’d be accountable to you guys. I’m a big talker and I rarely follow through with exercise/diet regimes. Well. The bagels have been retired (wah) and I’ve found a happy medium in my diet. I’m sleeping WAY better. I’m not sure that I’ve lost weight but my body has morphed into one that I’m really happy with. I think I’m a far happier person than I was last spring.
I figure that I averaged two commutes a week. Some weeks were four, some only one. So that’s 34 weeks – 68 rides – over 100 hours spent on my bike. It’s not a crazy amount…but it’s 100 hours more than last year.
So now, I’m going to get accountable to you guys again. Unless we’re blessed in early 2013 with great weather, my bike is retired for a few months. What will take it’s place? The machine that Will asked me about the other day. “What’s that thing in the basement that I can’t play with and you never do?’ That’s a rowing machine kid and that is going to have to replace my biking until the roads are clear and safe again.
We’ll see how it goes because it doesn’t hold the same appeal. You don’t get to see things like this in your basement.
and this….
So thanks for helping me out on this! What about you? Did you stick to anything new this year??
