About year ago I went to pick up my daughter at a sleepover (why does anyone use that term? We know they dont sleep) party at a friend’s from school. The mom, who I did not know well, asked me in for coffee.
You know how kids love it when they want more time together and they see you chatting? They tell each other – this could go on forever- my mom excells at chatting.
We sat in her lovely backyard and got to know each other. By her pool was an explosion of pink peonies. Not just any pink- but “nancy pink” (the colour my artists named after me in the art studio because of my love of it). I commented on them and she handed me an enormous bouquet at the door.
Loot bag for mom.
Yesterday- a full year later, I find this lovely woman at my door with a bouquet of these same flowers in a vase.
“I thought of you when these bloomed”
When you see how these gestures make you feel you want to spend all your days doing just this kind of thing for others.

Two things: One that was very kind and I must be doing something very wrong in my garden as my peonies are no were near bloom!!!!!

I love little kindnesses like these. I love peonies in all colours, but especially that one. And I love you.
And clearly, that woman thinks you’re pretty nifty too – you made an impression on her – that’s a wonderful thing, Village! Le sigh… how nice. 🙂

I say – you get what you give. You are such a giver so people think of you in these thoughtful ways. LOVE it!
Nancy says
Isn’t it?!!! When I got them I was about to do a class but I could not leave them alone so I brought them down to the art room, then at dinner back upstairs to the dining room table then at bedtime to my bedside. Seriously.

Oh Nancy, that’s the sweetest, simplest, loveliest thing I’ve heard in a long time. It made me feel so good I almost feel like I got the flowers. Display them prominently and enjoy your Nancy pink peonies.
