I pulled into my driveway at breakneck speed on Sunday- you know, the day of rest- with my girls in the car- a little pressed for time and needing to get to a million things, as usual. My neighbour knocked on my door, two seconds later
“Give me your car keys, I am going to wash your car. I just did mine”
First of all. Wow. Second of all- it is a lovely thing is to see someone washing their own car – it seems relaxed and loving and a bit old fashioned- and lets face it-this is second only to them washing your car. Third of all – he did not say “Can I wash your car?” He just said he was going to do it.
These are favourite neighbours. They are really good and kind people and so much fun to be around.
Today you can sign your child up for manners and ettiquette lessons at private clubs, you can get them a personal coach to show them how to goal set and get things done, you can send them to a therapist to work out all their demons or
YOU CAN SHOW THEM HOW TO BE BY BEING THAT WAY YOURSELF
I don’t need to tell you their children are wonderful, kind and generous people too.

Well said. I’m sure your kids have seen you do wonderful things for others too. You get what you give.

thumbs up to your neighbours!

You have great neighbours because you ARE a great neighbour, Village – I agree: modelling is the BEST way to be. (And children are always watching us…)

That is the type of neighbours everyone should have. I grew up in a small town & that type of thing happened all the time. Now living in the “big smoke” I don’t even know most of my neighbours. I find that sad.
I think I may wash my van this weekend too, if the weather holds out!
Great post!
