We are really blessed in that our kids are (a) not particularly fussy and (b) generally open to trying new food. I have no magical formula for you, nor any sage words on how to train your kids to do the same. Whether via nature or nurture, we’re darn lucky.
That being said, it is not a foregone conclusion that all (read: any) of our kids will like what we decide to make for dinner on any given night. It doesn’t even require anything fancy to set them off, for example my 5 year old has decided that pizza is now a no-no, while my other 2 consider it the best stuff on earth.
In our house we’ve set up a pretty simple policy, if you don’t like what’s for dinner you can choose leftovers from the fridge, a peanut butter sandwich, or a bowl of cheerios. Sometimes, if you twist mommy’s arm, she might make you some pasta.
It’s always a tough one because you obviously don’t want to see your child go hungry; you want them to try new foods; and you don’t want to be making 5 different dinners every night. So far, this seems to be the best balance for our family. No one is cooking alternate dinners, and the options are fairly healthy substitutes.

When our Ms Fussy comes around it’s soup, or sandwich. maybe even left overs. We used to be blessed with no Fussies…but lately the 7 year old is getting finicky.

We’ve been making PB & H or grilled cheese sandwiches, and Mr. Fussy is there every night! Argghhhh! I wish you had the magic solution Gav, cause we need one.
However, since you don’t, we will continue to offer them a variety of foods and hope for the best.
