UrbanKitchen: The Perfect Holiday Hot Chocolate

December 21, 2015 by Marianne Litman Leave a Comment

hot chocolate, ultimate hot chocolate,

Nothing says the holidays like a hot cup of coco brimming with marshmallows. But what if you or your kids are lactose intolerant? Or maybe you are on a dairy-free diet? Why should that mean that you lose out on all the hot chocolaty fun?

Why not try putting a little twist on the standard hot chocolate to make it dairy-free but oh-so-delicious too? Skip the milk and go with almond milk instead. It’s a healthy alternative that will help with any dairy-related concerns you and your family might have. (And it’s crazy yummy, so that helps too!)

Ingredients

2 cups (500 ml) Almond Breeze® Original

1/3 cup (75 ml) bittersweet or milk chocolate chips

2 tbsp (30 ml) miniature marshmallows

Yield 2 servings

Directions

Heat almond beverage, chocolate chips and 1 tbsp (15 mL) of miniature marshmallows in a small saucepan over medium heat until chocolate and marshmallows are melted, stirring frequently. Pour mixture into large mugs for serving and top with remaining miniature marshmallows.

Variations

Chocolate Mocha: Stir in 1 tsp (5 mL) instant espresso powder.

Mexican Mocha: Prepare Chocolate Mocha, adding a generous pinch of cinnamon.

Chocolate Caramel: Omit marshmallows and stir in 4 caramel candies.
