If you could take some time out of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season to create fun and tasty memories with your kids and, at the same time, help those in need, would you do it?
The holidays can easily become a greedy blur of excess but Rice Krispies is doing their part to give back during this festive season and also to encourage parents to take time out to connect with our kids with the Treats For Toys campaign. By baking Rice Krispies treats in unique shapes and sharing our photos of the experience, we got to be a part of it!
Today I took the time to play with our girls. I baked up a few pans of Rice Krispies and cut them out in the shape of three princesses for them to decorate.
I had a vision in my mind of the beautiful little princesses they would create with pretty sprinkles, carefully piped icing, and gently placed dragees. When they came home from school and saw the shapes set up, glued together with Royal Icing and standing upright at attention on a table filled with goodies for them to play with, they were ecstatic! We spent the afternoon creating their masterpieces together and all three girls had so much fun.
Brinley ate more of the decorations than actually used them on her princess, but she was having a pretty great time.
Meanwhile, the two older girls really paid attention to detail and adored having free reign with the sprinkles and icing.
It was so glorious to just take time out of our busy schedules and spend some quality moments together, connecting and creating and laughing.
Did their versions turn out anything like the Pinterest-worthy ones I pictured in my mind? Heck, no.
It was messy, and delicious. Kind of like my life in general.
But they had a fantastic time with me, and that’s worth more than a picture-perfect moment any day. My kids gave the Rice Krispies Princess Treats a five-star rating. Then bit their heads off and laughed, their mouths filled with the sweetness they just made. It was messy, and delicious. Kind of like my life in general.
Rice Krispies want to partner with you and your family to turn delicious treats into toys for children in need across Canada.
Taking part is easy as 1 – 2 – 3: (1) Make a toy-shaped treat using Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal; (2) Take a picture of your treat; and, (3) upload your picture to RiceKrispies.ca. For every original photo of a treat uploaded to RiceKrispies.ca, Kellogg will make a donation of $20 to the Salvation Army, up to a maximum of $30,000. The Salvation Army will then use the donations to buy toys for children in need across Canada for the holidays.
Sounds like a win for everyone, hey?

Awesome. Love this idea! I’m going to do this instead of making gingerbread people to decorate. Much easier. And who doesn’t like easier?
