Playing in the Kitchen

I love coming up with a great new recipe or finding one that I’m excited to try. Preparing a dish and having it come out the way I had hoped is very rewarding. Having my wife, kids & friends enjoy it is an added bonus.

Very often though I don’t have the time or ingredients on hand to whip together anything overly fancy. It’s those times that I will open the fridge, grab whatever is on hand, and whip together a spontaneous creation. Sandwiches are the simplest form, but pastas, omelettes, and wraps are also all fair play.
Grilled smoked meat sandwiches, pesto cream pasta with salmon and asparagus… some of my favourite dishes were creations based on left-overs and cast asides.
Are there any throw-together creations in your kitchen that have worked their way into your weekly meal plan?
Pictured above: cream cheese, avocado, red pepper, lox, tomato, cucumber & Parmesan on a bagel.

i do a stir-fry with left-over roast chicken, whatever veggies i can find – onions, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peas, green bean, asparagus to name the usuals in my fridge, throw in some potatoes if i have some, and season with garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilli powder, add some canned tomatoes and serve with rice…
