Where do you get your energy from? Aside from an exhilarating walk in the neighbourhood, or a venture to the mall to take advantage of the latest sale, I admit that I get my energy with my daily caffeine intake (lactose caramel macchiato, thanks). But there are times that I’d like a boost of energy without the coffee taste.
Recently I was sent over a few Starbuck’s Refreshers made with green coffee bean extract to try out. And we just had a few days of glorious sunshine days in the city this past weekend! Great timing!
What is it? We all know that coffee beans are harvested and roasted to give us those beautifully perfect crafted flavours that coffee is famous for. But it makes sense that the coffee beans start as green when it’s harvested before it goes through the roasting process. The green coffee extract is made from the raw bean found inside a 100% unroasted arabica coffee cherry. When left unroasted, green coffee beans maintain naturally occurring caffeine.
You may remember the popular handcrafted Starbucks Refreshers that were introduced in Starbucks locations last summer in yummy flavours Very Berry Hibiscus and Cool Lime. Now the popular lightly carbonated energy drinks are available in the grocery aisles and other convenient locations.
Bonus! Each can recharges you and only has 60 calories per can!
The new flavours include Raspberry Pomegranate, Strawberry Lemonade and Orange Melon.
What’s the verdict? I admit that I love my espresso based hot bevvies and the Starbucks Refreshers are a nice alternative for a boost of energy. The drinks definitely give you that sense of being alert without that coffee after taste. I also didn’t get that crazy buzz I usually get from drinking other energy drinks! Orange Melon is definitely my favourite flavour out of the three. Hello March Break!
I’ll be looking for these when I hit the beach!
