The gluten free marketplace has grown dramatically recently and we’re seeing more children with gluten sensitivities. But gluten-free is often associated with bland, dry and tasteless offerings. But things are changing. There’s a definitely wave of products in the marketplace that have caught our attention. But where can you go to sample what’s out there?
The Gluten Free Garage is a pop-up event that will be held on Sunday, November 9th, in Toronto at the Artscape Wychwood Barns (601 Christie Street) and definitely worth checking out. Creator RonniLyn Pustil was inspired by her daughter Lily, 8 who was diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2009. She was interested in creating an event to give people a taste of gluten-free options by bringing over 60 local artisanal vendors under one roof for one day. The idea behind the Gluten Free Garage is to promote and provide better access to top quality foods, create awareness about celiac disease and prove that gluten-free can taste good too!
Now in it’s 4th year, the Gluten Free Garage will showcase the city’s best eats, lifestyle, food trucks, guest speakers and even beer and cider tasting for the first time! This year’s guest speakers include North America’s leading gluten-free expert and author, Kathy Smart (Gluten-Free Belly Be Gone), Bunner’s Bake Shop co-owner Ashely Wittig and holistic culinary nutritionist Marni Wasserman.
More than 2000 are expected to attend this event. Discover local bakeries, caterers, restaurants and retailers. Sample and purchase gluten free foods, drinks and personal care products. Learn about gluten-free cooking and baking. I’ve recently had a chance to taste Dufflet’s new Gluten Free collection of desserts and treats — definitely delicious!
Admission is $10 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. More details can be found at glutenfreegarage.ca
