It’s All About the Candy Cane

November 24, 2012 by Jennifer

Candy-Canes.jpgWith American Thanksgiving done, and the first few snowflakes of the season being documented on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, it doesn’t seem premature to turn on the holiday lights, download my Christmas playlists and break out the yummy treats.

First on the menu; candy cane everything. I’m a big fan of peppermint year-round, but as December approaches I really can’t get enough candy cane. Here are a few of my favourites.
Santa’s Secret from David’s Tea
A friend brought this over to me last year when dropping her daughter off for a pre-Christmas playdate. It’s a delicious black tea with peppermint and adorable little candy canes; sure to get you through an all-nighter of gift wrapping!

<divtarget=blank”>Walmart’s Our Finest Candy Cane Cheesecake

I first tried this at a media preview on a sweltering summer day, and I’ve been dreaming of it ever since. Generous candy cane topping is the perfect complement to a rich chocolate cheesecake. Whip up your own cream (add a drop or two of creme de menthe) and claim this as homemade!
President’s Choice Candy Cane Chocolate Fudge Crackle Ice Cream
From mid-November through the season, you’ll find a carton of this taking up valuable real estate in my freezer at home. This has been my favourite ice cream since it made its debut over a decade ago, and it’s always my first seasonal purchase (I’m on my second carton already!)
Peppermint Mocha Via from Starbucks.
Want to have a peppermint latte wherever you are? I bought a package of this new instant coffee from Starbucks, and was pleasantly surprised to see it’s specially formulated to be mixed with hot milk (not water). This makes for a delicious homemade version of the popular Starbucks drink.
Second Cup’s Candy Cane Hot Chocolate.
I’m an absolute sucker for white hot chocolate, and this version with a hint of candy can is the perfect post-skating treat for my kids and I.
How about you…what’s your favourite way to enjoy candy canes?
