Our Family & Friends blog series is hosted by Generation Seven
wines. At Generation Seven we celebrate family, friends and the
connections we create while sharing delicious food and wine. This blog
series will tell these stories while celebrating the Bosc family’s
commitment to sustainability and giving back.
I am very blessed to be able to spend most of my summer and spring and fall weekends at my Mom & Aunt’s cottage, nicknamed “The Sausage”, because it’s on Sausage Lake, and, really, it’s funny. The Bunkie is called “The Cocktail Sausage”. The cottage opens on May 24th weekend and closes after Thanksgiving weekend.
The Sausage is always filled with family and friends. It seems that everyone who comes is a fantastic cook (some are chefs!) and a lover of good food, good friends and great wine!
Every night really is special on Sausage Lake. The dinner is always fantastic, no matter who is cooking. It’s often my Mom and Aunt Susan, who are both excellent cooks. But, it’s also our family friends, Marilyn and Joe, who are spectacular cooks (Joe is a chef and Marilyn has taken many courses and is now a food stylist). Regular and occasional visitors also contribute to the culinary deliciousness, providing us with a wide variety of foods.
Our evenings are filled with campfires, s’mores, more game playing, wine drinking, and good fun.
I invited a new friend, Amanda, and her family to The Sausage for Labour Day Weekend. My cousin was also there with her friends and their families. All eight bedrooms were full (they often are). We had beef tenderloin expertly grilled by Joe one night and pub style chicken wings the next. Fresh corn from a local farm rounded out the meals.
On Monday Amanda told me what a wonderful experience it was to have been there. She said that it was like having an extended family. She and I are new friends and we discovered that we want to continue to spend time together and get our families together often. She met thirteen new people in one day and felt welcomed and comfortable the entire time.
It is like having a village. Everyone works together to prepare meals and clean up. Everyone genuinely likes one another and enjoys discussing topics ranging from politics, to Scouts, public health, authors and books, current events, river guiding, fly fishing and even army boots! Friendships are formed and maintained here. What makes it so interesting is that we all have such different perspectives and opinions, yet we can share them in a safe place without strife.
I’ve learned that when you invite people into your space and your life, it becomes so much more stimulating and enriching. And the perfect place is surrounded by nature, good food, good wine and wonderful friends.
Generation Seven White is an easy going wine. It’s unoaked, fresh and fruity.
Generation Seven Red is smooth and easy drinking. It’s full of blackberry and raspberry flavours with just a hint of spice.

Ah, cottages. Wonderful Ontario memories. Out here in the West it’s trailers and RVs. *SIGH* But my girls and I have made some wonderful memories sharing timeshare weeks in Fairmont with great friends. Not exactly the same, but the closest we’ll get.
