You may have been unaware that in just a few short days, on June 13, it will officially be Kitchen Klutz Day. In Toronto, Baker Street is honouring some of the city’s klutziest cooks by keeping them far away from their stoves and kitchens by giving away some delectable handcrafted desserts.
Have you ever dropped dinner on the way to the table? Burnt the tomato sauce? Forgot a side dish in the microwave? Simply capture your klutzy moment in writing on Baker Street’s Facebook page and wait for the tasty goodies to arrive!
Baker Street has been family owned and operated for over 30 years. Clearly, anyone baking for that long has a passion for their art. I recently had the opportunity to try their take on a baker’s classic: The Apple Pie.
Now, I have never had much of a sweet tooth, but this pie was simply delicious. The crust had the perfect balance of flakiness. It was fork tender and had great texture, and held up great to the ooey-gooey goodness it contained.
However, it was the filling which really stole the show. I loved how the apples still had a little bit of crisp to them. The filling was tasty, not overly sweet, with a subtle hint of cinnamon (too many pies are obnoxiously overly spiced in my humble opinion). All in all, it was about as perfect as it gets.
So, you’ve got a few days – go get klutzy and win your way to a delicious dessert from Baker Street!
