So, what’s wrong with this skirt? Nothing, really. It fits well, and the colours are good on me, but I think it’s the pattern that throws me off. I feel weird whenever I wear it. I don’t feel like myself. And because of that, I seldom choose it. I think I’ve worn it about half a dozen times since I bought it three years ago from RW & Co.
I love the idea of A-line skirts, worn with adorable pumps and a fabulous bag to match… I love the idea of a jaunty, belted cardigan on top, maybe even with a rounded collar… I love the idea of Mad Men-esque ladies attire.
However, I don’t really have a lifestyle that supports such clothing – like out on lunch dates with ladies-who-lunch. Or to meetings of the professional kind. Or to golf clubhouse post-war theme parties. Or picnics! (I do none of those things.) Yes, I can put it on, but when I leave the house during the day, I’m headed to the liquor grocery store. Or fetching from the drycleaners. Or getting a kid from school. Or riding a scooter. Or standing in the grass in the park making sure my kids don’t bonk their heads on all the hard/sharp/poke-y things. It’s not all that fetching a scene, really.
Also, it’s cool to be who you are, and wear whatever you like to wear (of course) but you don’t want to look like a lady wearing a costume on the park bench while the people around you are wearing jeans and sweaters. Or whatever. Stilettos and lawns just don’t mix – especially not at two in the afternoon.
In the daytime, I prefer pants of some kind. I can walk faster in them, and I just… feel correct. Nighttime is a whole other thing – though I usually opt for jeans or pants, when I wear skirts, I often like them short and sparkly.
So, when exactly will I wear this skirt? Right. Almost never. So out it goes.
Also in the pile is this skirt, which I wore a whole bunch, and needs a bit of TLC I’m not willing to give her, because we broke up already, and I’m already looking to date other skirts. Sorry, girl… It’s not me, it’s you.

There’s certainly a great deal to find out about this issue. I really like all of the points you have made.

No good, mustard jeans? Suck. Well, good that you took them back, and that youre loving the plum ones. They sound AWESOME. Id pair it up with lots of greys and browns. EXCITING!!

I agree–skirt not you–too busy. White sleeveless was an “out” too. How about going through my closet up here in the country–wish you were close by.

Dude – Im SO loving this whole series. The best part of it – as I said to you – is that in going on the web – Ive really figured out that I have a style. Its not for all but its mine. So now when Im shopping, I question myself – really? not good. Bad news though – the mustard jeans…not for me – werent the same as the others…so I went plum…love.
