(On The Way Out) From My Closet – September 18th, 2012

September 18, 2012 by Urban Closet

I bought this longish plain white sleeveless shirt from Forever 21 about a year ago. I had ideas of throwing it on over a tank top, or knotting it at the waist, or belting it… it didn’t cost very much, so I just threw it over my arm with the other stuff I chose that day.
White shirts of this kind are not always made equally. The problems with this one? It’s just too long. I never do wear anything over a tank top in the summer ‘coz it’s just too damned hot. I tried knotting it, but the extra length just made the knot impossible to make lie correctly – too bulky. And that belted idea? As it turns out, I don’t love that look on myself very much.
To add to the list of wrongs, when I button it to a sensible certain height, it gapes between the boobs. That’s bad. If I open it to the next button, it’s just unseemly. (Sidenote: if you have shirts that do that, either have an snap sewn in between the buttons to keep it closed so it lies flat, or let the garment go – the gaping hole between your boobs it the first thing anyone sees, and it’s not flattering at all. It’s actually kinda terrible.)
Left untucked, it’s very straight and very meh. I don’t love the collar on it enough to save for wearing under crew neck sweaters or other preppy sorts of looks, and I have other things to toss over a bathing suit if need be. I wouldn’t even wear this item for sleeping… so out it goes. No harm – no foul.
Also on the pile is this top from Urban Behaviour, which was great while it lasted, and one of my favourites for a time, but it’s colour has faded since I wore it to death, so I’m basically over it – I will not cry.
Have you been purging? You’ve got stuff like this too… faded, ill-fitting stuff. GET RID OF IT!!

Hey! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I really enjoy reading through your articles. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same topics? Thank you! Do you have a spam problem on this blog; I also am a blogger, and I was wondering your situation; many of us have developed some nice procedures and we are looking to swap methods with others, be sure to shoot me an e-mail if interested.

For you? Yes, totally – Im too short for this much extra length, and the width is drowning me a bit. On you, Id even leave the last two or three buttons undone… badass belt buckle… moto boots… you dig? INFINITY SCARF MUCH??!

i think that you should send that to sara! i think that on you it is probably best “out”. i think that would shorten you rather than lengthen you. i think its time to purge, too. mostly undies!
