Well, in PR land summer is long over. The slew of “back to school” pitches in my inbox has slowed to a trickle, and the “holiday news” stories are ramping up. Blink and you may have missed summer, but I’m hanging on for dear life, and just can’t bring myself to start the research and the writing of posts about school supplies, backpacks and lunchboxes (that will come, I promise you).
Instead, I’ll write about the only “back to school” shopping that I actually enjoy; new shoes! It was always a tradition in my household that kids returning to school got new shoes to wear for the first day of school. I’ve carried that tradition on, but I’ve included myself in the equation and end up spending much of August stalking and hunting for a new pair of fall shoes worthy of purchase.
I’m going to let you in on a little style secret that it has taken me four decades to uncover. You can never go wrong with yellow shoes. Yellow shoes! Visions of ducks feet dancing in your head? Ironically, yellow works with everything.
With dark jeans, a t shirt and a blazer, nothing will perk up your outfit like these Nine West ballet flats (on sale now for $39)
Trying to stretch your sundresses into the cooler months? Throw on a cardigan, but keep the look light with some Naya Wanita sandals like these.
Play it safe for cocktail hour? Sure, you can stick with your little black dress, but why not stand out in the crowd with these bright pumps from Aldo?
And if you’ve got the need for speed, the Olympics may be over, but the style slaves are still talking about the hottest shoes at the games…Nike’s Volts. I am a firm believer that the brighter your kicks, the faster your pace.
So hit the malls for the back to shoe shopping, but avoid the back to school blues….stay mellow yellow!
