Well, last night was the 54th Annual Grammy Awards and to be blunt and well…morbid…they’re lucky that certain people died right before the show and in the year leading up to it.
Obviously the not so surprising death of Whitney Houston on the eve of the Grammy Awards lent a sadness over the show but honestly, this was hands down the worst Grammy’s in years. Dullsville on a performance and fashion sense.
The performance highlights for me were the ones in honour of Etta James, Don Cornelius and of course Whitney. There were some really odd ‘eff you’ performances. Taylor Swift did some odd Hee Haw (thanks Jodi) thing but in the background was the barricades from Les Mis…the role she did not get. And Katy Perry debuted her new single. Not hard to tell who she was singing about. Holy crap – when a guy pisses me off, I just drunk dial him a bit but Russell Brand got his head handed to him last night. (you’ll have to google it – as of now…not posted anywhere).
Fashion?? Well….Again – totally dull.
Nicki Minaj. The thing is – you expect this stuff from her so it’s not shocking or original. It’s just ridiculous.
I don’t know who the hell this is….or what the hell she is wearing!??!?! There was some other no name woman on the carpet who had guns on her shoulder but I couldn’t be bothered to scroll through all the pics to find her!
Oh Fergie. I can’t figure this out. My friend Sarah said that this is her ‘divorce dress’….I howled with laughter…but I’m not sure I agree. I think this is her ‘I’m going to get knocked up this year so look at my body now.’
The Queen of the Grammy Awards from all points – performance, wins, acceptance speeches and everyone basking in her…how can you not love her….was Adele! (she said ‘snot’ in her speech…LOVE)
Did you watch the Grammy’s? What did you think???

I look forward to hearing her sing again I do think Adele is the best talent to come along in many many years. Her voice will be soulful and unique and not all over hyped with techno garbage it’s really her voice and

I watched a most of the last hour and I swear I completely became my mother when N.Minaj started “singing”. I had to remove my tired self from the couch and go to bed. She made my ears bleed. How can she sing like that and be recognized as a musician on the same stage where Etta James and Whitney are being recognized. Barf. Don’t be weird just for the sake of being weird.

I was going to say the same Tracey….I’m away so checking things on the fly and I’m like ‘did Christine say she didn’t like J Hud??” I thought it was amazing – albeit I went to bed first. but oh MY am I sick of the Whitney stuff already…..
Sara says
Okay I will say in hindsight….it was better than I thought initially. I was putting the kid to bed when Bruno Mars came on and he was amazing. And I loved the Glen Campbell tribute…the Civil Wars…Adele. I honestly think that my issue was how AWFUL Coldplay was with Rihanna…and the inclusion of Chris Brown…not once but twice! Really? Foos….i love – but twice as well? I am THRILLED that they gave Bon Iver best new artist…was Kathleen Edwards with him? I missed that part.

To be honest,
I thought it was one of the better Grammy shows in recent history. I don’t tend to watch them because they suck for the most part but I was thoroughly entertained.

I’m so glad you watched that clip again, lady – I thought she was pretty amazing! Especially since it was all at a moment’s notice…
PS – N. Minaj makes me want to stop watching TV permanently. Oy.
Christine says
Okay.
I just saw a clip of J-Hud on The View. I take back what I said. It was beautiful.
Oh also – I was much more entertained by Adele’s performance than I was by Nikki Minaj. That was just confusing. And weird.
Christine says
Ok. So I’m going to just say it: I was underwhelmed with Jennifer Hudson’s performance. That said – I cannot imagine the weight on her shoulders to pull that off.
Didn’t Katy Perry do a lovely bit last year in which she showed video from their wedding? What a difference a year makes.
Taylor Swift – what a cutie. I liked her pioneer-ish, banjo playing performance.
The Coldplay/Rihanna thing…huh?? what was that??
Chris Brown – I loved that throughout his performance and anytime he was mentioned, tweeps flooded it with tweets about domestic violence, awareness and stats.
Foo Fighters. DAVE GROHL. I LOVE HIM. So hard.
Adele. I loved hearing her fank everbody for everyfing. Her rubbish relationship and her wee bit’o snot…classic, human, stunning. Fantastic.

I thought the Grammys were pretty good, actually. It always becomes more of a snooze-fest as the hour moves past 10 PM – and less people are watching by then anyway – but I thought a lot of the performances were pretty good.
America is only going to love Taylor Swift more, and hate Chris Brown harder. There was lots of crappy lip-synching during the evening, for sure, but the real deals? Adele. The Civil Wars. Jennifer Hudson. FOO FIGHTERS!!!
I thought Paul McCartney was terrific… and I thought his Valentine song was really lovely!! Carry That Weight was an excellent end to the show. LOVED it.

i don’t know what to do about fergie….her dress is beautiful…but not…
anyway, i liked dave grohl’s win speech and the juxaposition afterwards with him jamming with deaf mau5…an electronic musician 🙂

I know they had to remember Whitney, and it was nice to remember the others that died this year…I understand and respect all that. What I don’t respect and understand is why they thought it was okay to allow that Nikki M. to perform that crazy act, and that guy with the shaggy brown hair and the upside down cross?! What the heck was all that about?!!! I think besides a couple of the high points like Adelle and the Paul mcCartney performance(even he wasn’t that great), the Grammy’s were a flop this year. 🙁
Amreen says
I agree! I thought it was so unimpressive. boring! Too much of Paul McCartney, who I totally love, but in his old age is seriously starting to look like Angela Lansbury. And what was it with his creepy Valentine song? he redeemed himself in the end with Abbey Road
Adele was lovely, genuine and beautiful – with great eye make up
nice to see the bEach boys – though the tribute was very disappointing – nothing compared to last year’s awesome Dylan one

I loved Bruno Mars and Adele’s performances..but other than that..it was a snooze fest. Do you think Whitney’s unfortunate death actually gave the Grammy’s some buzz? Wondered what it would have been like if that didn’t happen. zzzzzzz.
