From My Closet – December 21st, 2012

I have a motto I sort of shop by: if the shoe fits, buy it. For I have wee feet, and finding the right fit can be taxing as hell.
Same goes for rings and these small hands of mine. Ever since I was a teen, wandering around downtown Toronto, perusing the offerings of street vendors up and down Yonge Street, and on Queen, when I came to any sort of jewelry stand, I would try on just about every piece of metal for sale. Nothing would ever fit my fingers. Except for the odd toe ring…
I’m not about to have a $15 sidewalk-sale ring sized at the jewler’s. Nor will I ever walk around with a wad of sticky duct tape/electrical tape/hockey tape under my middle finger. So, I’ve learned to just pass on those sorts of purchases.
I do so love me a bit of bling… but I’m not buying myself diamonds very regularly either. Ahem.
Fast forward to today, and I tell you, my precious Forever 21 never ceases to amaze me in this department. They have an entire section that just sparkles and screams GLAM at you, when you walk through the doors. And the best part is, they often have rings in size 6, which is just a shade large on my hand, but I manage to make them work. If the ring fits, buy it, I say.
What I love most is shaking hands with new people, at parties and such, and I can’t tell you how many people have said, “Love your ring!” when they get a gander. They are tres fun, and add a bit of pizzazz to an otherwise understated outfit. Throw one on with jeans and a t-shirt – it’s fabulous. They cost next to nothing, so I just collect them. And if a stone or two fall out? I will not cry. Nothing lasts forever.
I chose the gold one to pair with this kind of thing (which I wore), and the black one just matches the darkness of my soul and whatnot. *smirks*
Bonus? Though I do my best to smile through the holidays and be sweet to people and stuff (really, I do) if I encounter an asshat who really needs punching in the neck, I reckon with one of these on, I’d leave a mark. Heh.
