There are a zillion fashionistas in the blogosphere BUT how clever is Leandra Medine to start up one of the most talked about fashion pages on the internet. MANREPELLER is just over a year and has already gained worldwide attention. Medine just barely graduated out of journalism school when she started blogging about the fashion scene in New York.
Medine was in Toronto yesterday to help launch Holt Renfrew’s new fashion blog holtsmuse.com and her followers were gushing in their harem pants.
So, what makes this blog different and what is ManRepeller?…Medine describes her blog as “trends that women love and men hate”. Is she really telling us how to repel men? Well, she sees it as men are quite simple and women are complex. Ask most men, what they find sexy? it’s uncomplicated dressing that can come off easily, right? So, us women go the opposite way and North American fashion trends tend to be more of…. more (who came up with layering?)
However, if you can embrace the trends because you love them…then you get what ManRepeller is telling us. It’s about being an individual and if you feel good about what you wear, then you knock it out of the park, sista!!!!
Here are ManRepeller’s favourite talked about 5 fashion trends…
1. ARM PARTY – wearing multiple bracelets, and watch out for those allergic reactions! we love them..but the rashes on our arms, not so much.
2. COLOURED PANTS – I personally love them in rich colours, pastels not so much! How old are we?
3. ANKLE BOOTIES – unless you’ve got super thin legs…otherwise, hello tree stumps.
4. ANIMAL PRINTS- grrrr…I hate being called a cougar..wearing these just accentuates the stereotype. (no offence to those who like to be called cougars). Rejoice! ManRepeller encourages you to unleash your inner feline! m-e-o-w!
5. CLUTCHES – is it because we hide behind them? can’t leave a free hand to hold a drink and the canape?

Top of my list..ponchos, shoulder pads, caftans, crocs, flip flops and anything that appears too comfortable and functional.
BTW..what’s top of my hubby’s list? Uggs (yeah..and I’ve told him I don’t care! I like the new ankle booties!)
LOL…it doesn’t meant I don’t have comfy stuff! I love Man Repeller items too! But that’s just it..if you love it, then ROCK it! Who cares, right?

Oh Sonya – we could never share a wardrobe!!! Flip flops and anything comfy…that’s my style. But I have to laugh – I LOVE everything on the man repeller list….. just bought the greatest ankle booties and a pair of leopard flats….huge fan of the bracelets…and I’m on the hunt for a great pair of red pants.
I’m also currently wearing Alice’s pink bathrobe….
Not a trend, but in terms of man repellers? I had a pink bathrobe that my husband finally he told me was like wearing a giant STOP sign. uh, I don’t have that bathrobe anymore.
