Man, I feel like winters get longer and longer with each passing year. The first day of spring was one week ago, and we (in Montreal) had a bit of a snow storm that day. I mean, of course we did.
I know some uber-cheerful nay-sayers out there will say things like, “Chin up! It was just a squall for goodness sake!!” but I know I’m not in the minority when I say I’m more than a tad impatient about the emergence of spring. In the way that actually feels like spring. The kind of weather that encourages the growth of crocuses and tulips. The kind with sunshine and no snow on the sidewalks. The kind with days that have temperatures that begin with the number ONE, and don’t have minus signs in front of them.
I’m so tired of wearing my huge, brown winter parka, I cannot even tell you.
I’m tired of most of my clothes. I’m tired of looking at my children’s clothes and my husbands clothes too, with some wicked passion. I dream about snipping a few over-worn things into shreds. I want so much to pull out the lighter-season stuff, but it’s premature – it’s still just too cold for linen, no matter how much I miss those capri pants.
Which brings me to shopping… while window-licking, I see jaunty spring-to-summer fashions for women like flirty floral blouses and dresses – which are not even my thing, necessarily – that make me desperate to come home with. Everything I spy with my little eye is giving me a serious case of The Covets, like you have no idea.
These days, I can scarcely open a fashion magazine without weeping.
I recently bought a pair of white shorts from Old Navy, which I won’t even be able to wear for roughly three more months. (And nevermind how said shorts even look on my body after a long winter of sitting down, cheese-eating, and wine-drinking. Yikes!)
At this point, I think I’d be happy just to be able to wear shoes, with some reliability that I won’t step into a massive slush-puddle at the crosswalk, or be required to climb a snow bank in order to rescue a Little even one more time this year.
Shoes like THESE lovelies I recently scooped up while shopping at the place that rhymes with Sinners… pale grey suede with cork sole wedges. Plus, they give me an extra four inches of height, which tends to make a shorty like me feel full of WIN!
(Note to self: get pedicure for Jurassic feet before sandal-wearing in public.)
It’s coming… it’s coming, I know. I just really wish Spring would hurry up and get here, already.
Am I the only one trying to shake off the end-of-winter funk? Coveting anything closet-needy?

I keep asking my lady friends for a shopping and recreation visit to Montreal…it is hard to gather everyone together but with the snow thawing…I am hoping soon.
I’ll facebook it right now!

Idas, I’ve been wearing them in the house so far, and they seem quite comfy – it’s the wedge that makes them wearable. Indeed, check your local Winners for them… or come shopping in Montreal!!
Tracey says
They’re good, right? *swoons*

Tracey,
those shoes look so cute! Are they comfy?
Just imagine a pretty flowing skirt with those…dreaming of summer just looking at that pretty flower.
thanks!
I know Montreal has 10 times better (at least) fashion supply that Toronto, fingers crossed I can find those in Toronto.
thanks for the inspiration.

Alice, the last time I tried to wear shoes, my feet nearly froze off, and I felt sooooo foolish. Gah! I should at least try to wear my Converse sneakers outside these days… I’m so desperate to be sans socks though. Patience is a virtue, they say. I don’t know who “they” are, but they say a lot of dumb stuff. Like, whoa.

It’s super sunny here today too, but still c-c-cold… me no likey. I dream about warm sand, but somehow that just isn’t the same as the road-variety in my entrance – even if there’s so much of it, a toddler could build a castle out of it reasonably well. Ack. SPRING! WHERE ARE YOU??!
Alice says
SO with you. have been wearing shoes anytime the sidewalks are relatively clear just to get out of boots. Sick of my damn parka. Sick of same old pants and sweaters. Sick of dry, nasty hands and feet. Only thing I will miss is the fact that the dryness has kept my hair from frizzing, which is nice, but still. Right with you on DYING for spring and spring clothes!

I’m in T.O. & can’t WAIT for the spring weather!!! So tired of that 4-letter “s” word (in our family it’s a “swear” word – LOL!)!! Today is sunshiny & VERY deceiving ’cause it isn’t as warm as it looks!
Oh well! Will keep wishing!

You’re smart to at least put on a jaunty scarf… I bought some sparkly earrings the other day, in an effort to look different in my black turtleneck. Le sigh.
And yes – those shoes are da bomb, and they were also da CHEAP – my favourite. I forced myself not to buy the black ones (so wonderful though!) and they also came in an excellent tomato red… slightly the wrong colour for my stuff, but GREAT looking! I dare ya to go get some…!

I’m right there with you, Tracey. I have really HAD IT with winter, and with my winter wardrobe. I’m letting myself slip a few warmer weather pieces into my daily palette of greys and blacks (today’s it’s black pants, grey sweater with a grey/black/FUSHIA!!! scarf to laugh in the face of those sub-zero temps).
Those shoes are da bomb! Love them!
