There was so much brouhaha about what Kate was going to wear – I tried not to pay much attention, but the countdown to the Big Day had all kinds of what if dress ideas all over the papers and the media for WEEKS, as you know. WHO was the designer? WHAT would she be wearing?! Everyone seemed to wager a guess. (I think I even saw a pantsuit option… as if!) There were scribbled fashion designs of dresses everywhere… it was mostly unavoidable. (But I don’t care about such things, really.)
In the end, the new Dutchess of Cambridge wore the ideal thing: perhaps slightly understated overall, but classic, timeless and beautiful. Covered enough for church formalities, but fitted in all the right places, accentuating her toned arms and tiny waist. The veil and tiara were lovely too, I thought. It had a (mere) ten foot train, which seemed miles shorter than some royal brides before her… such an extensive train on any of us Dull Normals would seem ridiculous at best (since we don’t have footmen and such to carry the back ends of our dresses for us) but I dare say, if one is marrying a prince, then one really ought to wear something spectacular, even in these modern times, don’t you think?
That pretty girl didn’t disappoint.
Wedding dresses (though not always created equal) are usually pretty. Brides always make us feel tender, no matter what they wear. White. Off-white. Cream. Crepe. Satin. Dupioni silk this… Chantilly lace that. Pearls buttons. Moiré whatever… But it wasn’t Kate’s dress that I loved the most…
It was her sister Pippa’s that took my breath away –
I don’t know or care what it was made of, nor who the couturier was… but it was Perfection with a capital “P”. I loved the cap sleeves and the excellent drape of the neckline. A long row of buttons down the back of a dress is always delicious. The girl was stunning from head to toe, I say. I actually clapped my hand to my mouth and gasped when I saw it… it was holywowamazeballs.
I wish I owned one just like it. I need to call my seamstress. Oh, and have another wedding, maybe.
Any thoughts on the frock-parade? To be honest, I didn’t look at anyone else much…

i agree with you on everything! the middleton sisters were classic and stunning! Can you believe that Sarah Burton can design for Lady Gaga and Royal Weddings, and pull both off with such panache!! Talk about range.

I think so… she’s not a guest – I’m thinking they had all the “colour stuff” worked out in advance *snort* and wasn’t it gorgeous?! I loved it!!

us her dress (Pippa’s) white? she’s wearing the colour of the bride & that’s o.k?

I tried to block out a lot of the commentary… too much nattering for my ears. I realise they had, like, seven hours of “filling” to drone on about, but the pics were lovely. Glad you managed to catch a glimpse, Village. (Heh.)

Pippa looked comfortable like she was in a pair of jeans and white T. I love that. Kate looked lovely. I was the last person on the planet to catch a glimpse of it though.

I did NOT see that dress!! I’ll have to look it up. It would appear that I’m enjoying frocks nearly as much as hats! (But only nearly… 😉 And neither ever, EVER compare to my love of shooooooooes…!!

I totally agree. Kate was beautiful and understated, perfect for Wills. And Pippa was stunning. Did you see Kate’s reception dress? It was also gorgeous but she looked so skinny!
Tracey says
You think so? I think in this case I definitely love them – she has lovely, toned arms, and they’re the perfect balance to her little waist, and the length of the dress. (I like a cap sleeve – though it’s true that they don’t suit everyone.) Le sigh. I want one.

Same designer, in fact!
I love the draped neck, though I’m not always convinced that cap sleeves are flattering – they might have been a little stiff or wide or something?
