According to Facebook Relationship Status updates from 2012*, this year is set to be a Blue Valentine’s Day with more singles celebrating than couples.

In 2012, 40.5% of Facebook users who had a change in their relationship status switched to ‘single’, while 29.2% changed to being in a relationship.

Only 7.5% of users who updated their status chose not to specify their relationship while 3.2% listed their status as ‘it’s complicated’.

Since Facebook’s launch in 2004, users worldwide have been sharing the stories, updates and events of their lives to connect with friends and family. Whether it was too complicate to put a name on it or it was time to proclaim a new love, relationship status updates became another way to keep your social network updated on your personal life.
