These days, it’s not enough to just be a plain ol’ diva. You’ve got to be a tv judge too!
Confirming recent rumours, Mariah Carey has officially signed on as a judge replacing Jennifer Lopez on the fifteenth season of American Idol.
“I’m so excited to be joining Idol” Mariah said via phone call with Fox boss Kevin Reilly. “I can’t wait to get started in a couple of months.”
Mariah’s new gig pits her judging talents against other diva judges such as Christina Aguilera who is a coach on The Voice and Britney Spears, who recently joined X Factor as a judge along with singer Demi Lovato.
So how will Mariah stack up? Never at a loss for words, Simon Fuller, creator and judge of X Factor had this to say:
“I’m happy for her. I like Mariah. I think she’s going to find it difficult to say “no”. You’ve got to say “no” to people and she’s sweet.”
Simon says Demi and Britney won’t have such a problem because “They are harder to please than me or L.A. (Reid). They are very happy – these two – in giving people a “no”. That’s why we hired them.”
Hold on a second…did Simon just manage to flatter and insult Mariah at the same time?
Ouch!!
All we need now is someone to sign Celine Dion to one of these shows and we’ve got all the divas gainfully employed as judges!

I think Simon is right..Mariah probably doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. She’ll pull the “I was down but pulled myself back up” stuff. I think she’ll be soft too.
No one has anything on Mariah, she has won more awards, had many more top songs and has been going strong for so long! We would have to wait another decade to see if someone like Britney can beat Mariah.
