They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but this new exhibition will leave you speechless. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition opens to the public tomorrow (November 23) at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and it’s stunning!
The exhibition is based on an internationally recognized photography competition, a partnership between BBC Worldwide and London’s National History Museum. This is the 49th year running with over 43,000 entries last year.
“The artistry, imagination and skill on show reveal that wildlife photography can be a true art form,” says Rosamund Kidman Cox, Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the ROM features 100 images from this year’s winning entries and runner-ups. The exhibition displays 11 categories depicting wildlife, landscapes, and marine life. Also included are three children’s categories. By the way, look for the image titled “Mother’s Little Headful,” you won’t stop smiling!
Each image is accompanied with information from the photographers including their inspiration as well as what equipment was used to capture that moment in the wild. In addition, you’ll notice that winning entries are not displayed to stand out. This is done with intention as to allow the viewers to enjoy each image with an equal eye. It is only when you read the explanation you will see a mention.
You’ll also want to check out the spectacular work of 22 year old Vancouver resident Connor Stefanison. The young Canadian photographer is the recipient of the 2013 WPY Special Prize and has five stunning images in this exhibition.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition at the ROM opens November 23rd, 2013 and runs to March 23, 2014. Exhibition ticket is $5 over the price of ROM general admission. Admission is free for ROM Members.
