I can recall the nights when my mom and grandma would sit in front of the television and tuned into I LOVE LUCY. It was always a favourite of ours to watch. Even though my grandma didn’t speak English she could figure out the story line by just watching their facial expressions and gestures. I remember her laughing those full belly laughs at Lucy and her wailing at Ricky. It was fun times as I laughed along with her.
The iconic hit sitcom I LOVE LUCY originally aired on CBS from 1951 to 1957 and is considered to be one of the most popular shows in the history of television. The characters were funny, charming and loveable. I think Ricky Ricardo was my first introduction to the Latino world and the music!!!
What I’ve recently learned about this TV show is that it was a pioneer in the multi-camera shooting technique using 35mm film to capture the weekly scripted show making it accessible for viewing we now know as “reruns.”
But wouldn’t it be fun to turn back in time and revisit those days? Indeed, this all-time favourite is now a LIVE stage production! After a very successful premiere run in Los Angeles and in Chicago, I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE is now a smashing hit in Toronto!
According to Showbiz Chicago, this production is an “out-of-body experience for ‘Lucy’ fans.” I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE take audience members back to the 1950s to be part of the “studio audience” where they await the filming of two hilarious episodes of two familiar episodes. You’ll be transported back in time to what it felt like as part of the behind-the-scenes audience. A charming host entertains and enlightens the crowd about the filming process of this brand new thing called “television.”
The stage show is complete with the Crystaltone Singers performing advertising jingles between takes. While Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel entertains with their sidesplitting antics.
The brand-new hit stage show, I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE, play a strictly limited engagement until November 3, at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre. Tickets are now on sale at www.mirvish.com or by calling Ticketking at 416-872- 1212.
It’s a lot of fun! You’ll smile the entire time!
