Pharrell Williams – Happy

December 2, 2013 by Tracey 4 Comments

Some people love to get their jingle-on the minute they stash their Halloween accoutrement away for the year, somewhere around November 1st. This is entirely too early for me, mostly because my birthday is November 24th, and I just don’t like to mix my birthday shenanigans with the candy cane variety, and I can only take so much Holiday Happiness in musical form at a time.

But, it’s also time for holiday shopping, which can fatigue a person while wandering through malls, like whoa… one needs a little perk. You need some peppy ear-candy just to make it through those long line-ups. You need to hear something groovy to keep that smile on your lips. I mean, you can’t go around punching people in Starbucks, no matter how rude they are to the baristas.

Enter: Pharrell Williams (AKA The Ageless Wizard), and this jaunty little tune he wrote for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, which isn’t a Christmassy tune in the least, but still has a good-vibes feeling, which makes it still apt for the holidays, no matter what you celebrate, or when. And watch that cutie-pie and all kinds of other people get up while they get down… it’s a totally fun, infectious little ditty – I dare you not to dance. (And anyway, you should dance – dancing is good for you.)

*clap-clap clap*

[youtube id=”y6Sxv-sUYtM”]

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof

Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth

Clap along if you know what happiness is to you

Clap along if you feel like it’s what you want to do

Did you spot the celebrities? Look again. (Even that dancer in the Black Keys video for Lonely Boy came to get down.) In fact, watch the longer, interactive version of this video here.

Incidentally, Despicable Me 2 is pretty fun, too, if you haven’t seen it yet – enjoyment for your whole fam damily. C’mon… get happy!

That is the most amazing thing I’ve seen all day! THANK YOU. The message is just so incredible. Playing it for my class tomorrow – they will LOVE it, especially because our whole classroom is minion-themed. For Halloween I even dressed up as Gru and some of the kids dressed up as minions!
