When Caitlyn Jenner made her public debut on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s July issue, she was greeted with a mixed bag of love and support on the one hand, and hate and criticism on the other. But for all the negativity that can be found on the matter, this video will restore any faith in humanity that was lost.
Hatch by SheKnows got a group of kids to talk about their thoughts regarding Jenner’s transition. But before they did that, the kids were shown two pictures—one of Jenner from when she was a famous Olympian in the 70s and the other from her recent Vanity Fair shoot.
When the kids were told that the two pictures were of the same person, while they were a little confused at first, by the end, were overwhelmingly supportive and accepting.
“Who she wants to be is who she should be,” said one of the little participants.
As if it couldn’t get any more perfect, the most impressive part of the video was when the kids were shown some of the negative comments people were posting about Jenner on social media. Just by the reactions on their faces, these kids knew without hesitation that the ridicule and shaming was not right.
“I think they are just scared of change. They just want everything to stay the same because they don’t know how to handle it,” said one of them.
“I think it’s because the people that are saying that are afraid to change themselves,” said another.
Ending off the video on a deeply thought-provoking note, one of the young boys concluded with some solid life wisdom. ““It’s important to be yourself because if you’re not yourself, then who are you?”
Now if that’s not the perfect mic drop moment, we don’t know what is.
