Toddlers are a lot like parrots in their ability to repeat the words they hear without knowing what they actually mean. Sometimes we forget toddlers have this unique ability until they surprise us with an astonishing and/or embarrassing echo of what we’ve just said.
The world was recently reminded of this hilarious but dangerous quality through a video of a little girl in England participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. In the video which is now a viral sensation, the adorable toddler is seen sweetly sitting in a chair in their backyard, muttering conventional baby babble, until a bucket of water is poured over their head to their unpleasant surprise.
What was most unexpected to both the amazement and horror of millions of viewers was the British-inflected “f*ckin’ hell!” that was volleyed right after as the toddler sprung up out of their chair in fury. Although the reactions of the child’s parents cannot be seen, it’s not unreasonable to assume that the (hopefully untaught) reaction made them feel like a bucket of ice water had just been poured over their own heads.
We hope that a quick lesson on not swearing followed immediately. If anyone needed a reminder of the importance of being careful about what we say around children, this viral video surely was it!
And even though we know kids swearing is not a good thing… we couldn’t help but laugh. We dare you to try and not laugh when you watch the video below!
