Every day for several years now I see a man who lives in my neighbourhood walking to the subway with his wife on their way to work. I love the idea of two people heading off to work together and maybe returning together, having these separate lives to share at the end of the day
but
here is, withought fail, what I see every time they walk by me
he is 5-10 steps ahead of her
this is what I feel when I see this
There are moments when we don’t have to be side by side
or this
but in general- wait up!!!
I am not sure whether I am more pissed at him for doing it or for her for walking behind him.

i kinda do that but i’m a fast walker and sometimes oblivious. but you’re right, if you’re walking with someone, walk _with_ someone! it would be interesting to know if they’re both on the phone when they’re doing this….

My husband died in April. We were big walkers, around our neighbourhood, around our city, when we went on holidays. This is one of the things I miss the most. We would walk side by side and talk about our daughters, our lives, our future. this April I am having a fundraiser in my husbands name, A Walk To Remember James. I still walk ,sometimes with a friend ,sometimes on my own but I know James is always with me.

My husband does that sometimes & it really really annoys me! I always say something & he immediately walks slower & apologizes but it is extremely irritating to me. It is so rude!

This would all be resolved if they just held hands 🙂 Hubby is a foot taller than me and his stride is 1 1/2 times that of mine, holding hands is the only way we stay in sync. and still do it 90% of the time after 3 kids and 14 years

I’m with you. You have to walk WITH someone to be sharing time and conversation with them, otherwise you are merely near them, and what’s the point? I’d rather leave separately and do my own thing than be dragging along behind like that.
