You have heard it but do you do it?
Prepare the child for the road not the road for the child.
I try to remember it
The other morning at art camp, I asked a camper how she slept and she said ” I was hot, so not that well.”
I told her maybe she should sleep in a sheet alone and maybe just underwear and a tank top (maybe not those polar fleece pjs- I firmly believe the homeless, the drug addicted, the very old and the very young are not capable of detecting temperature and when they do they don’t know what to do about it)
She said ” I don’t have any undies”
Not a single pair of gitch? (We have a week together)
“Nope.”
I said “Honey did you pack yourself?”
Yup
I love this.
Guess what? She will never forget them again
And maybe more to the point- she survived. In fact, it didn’t bother her in the least.

heh. Yup, lessons they learn by experience are always the ones that stick the most thoroughly.
